Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Cooperation of the Linking of Research between British English Tests and CSE between NEEA and the British Council

On December 6th, 2016, the fourth meeting of the China-UK High-Level People-to-People Dialogue, co-chaired by Liu Yandong, Chinese Vice Premier, and Jeremy Hunt MP, British Secretary of State for Health, was held successfully in Shanghai.

During the ninth Ministerial Consultation between China and UK that morning, in the presence of Chen Baosheng, Minister of the Chinese MoE, and Justine Greening, British Secretary of State for Education, Jiang Gang, National Education Examination Authority (NEEA) President, and Sir Ciarán Devane, Secretary-General of the British Council, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation of linking research between British English tests and China’s Standards of English (CSE). It marked an important step in the international coupling of CSE.

During the meeting, Sir Ciarán Devane commented that the construction of China’s Assessment System of Foreign Language Ability further proves China’s increasing international influence in the field of language testing. He congratulated NEEA on the impressive achievements in such a short time and added that the research projects would be helpful in promoting the linking between Chinese English tests and the well-known international English tests. At the conclusion of the meeting, Chen Baosheng expressed his expectation on linking research projects, hoping that both sides would go further on this basis and generate more benefits for students in China.

At the plenary meeting of the fourth meeting of the China-UK High-Level People-to-People Dialogue that afternoon, again in the presence of Liu Yandong and Jeremy Hunt MP, Chen Baosheng and Justine Greening signed the Sino-British Education Partnership Action Plan. The Plan foresees linking research between British English tests and CSE.
