The Application of CSE in Students’ Self-Assessment in a College English Writing Course: From the Perspective of Dynamic Assessment Theory
ZHANG Wenxia, WANG Xiaolin
Abstract:
China’s Standards of English Language Ability (hereafter CSE) aims to provide a common reference to English learning, teaching and assessment. This small-scaled study explores the way to apply the CSE to students’ self-assessment in a college English writing course from the perspective of Dynamic Assessment Theory (DA). This paper first develops a DA model with CSE as “scaffolding” and investigates the way of applying CSE to students’ self-assessment and its effects, followed by the analysis of CSE’s influence on students’ writing process and learning efficiency. The results show that CSE provided criteria for English learners’ self-assessment and promoted their writing ability. The role of teacher feedback on students’ CSE-based self-assessment is also discussed.
