Exploring the inner structure of the Interpreting Scale of the China's Standards of English Language Ability

  Abstract:

  The Interpreting Scale is an important part of the China’s Standards of English Language Ability (CSE). This paper firstly defines the construct of interpreting competence, and briefly introduces the sub-scales of the Interpreting Scale. Secondly, it explores the inner structure of the Interpreting Scale from two dimensions of descriptor generation principles and hierarchical differences. Thirdly, taking the interaction sub-scale as an example, the paper further explains the Interpreting Scale, aiming at providing reference for its application to teaching, learning and testing of interpreting.
